Short answer: in Steal an Egg you grab eggs from guarded nests, carry them back to your pen and hatch them into pets that earn Cash every second. Speed decides how far from your base you can safely go, and every new biome has much better eggs. So the fastest way to progress is simple: hatch the best eggs you can reach, keep raising your Speed, and move to the next biome as soon as you can get there and back.
This guide walks through the first hour of the game step by step. The game facts come from the community wiki (Source: community wiki); the tips and the numbers we worked out are our own analysis of that data.
How the game works in one minute
- Find a nest. Each biome has nests full of eggs, and a guardian monster sleeping next to them.
- Steal an egg and run. Pick it up and get back to your base before the guardian catches you.
- Hatch it in your pen. After its hatch time, the egg becomes a pet that earns Cash every second.
- Get faster. More Speed lets you reach biomes farther from your base, where the eggs and pets are far stronger.
Step 1: Fill your pen in the Forest
The Forest is open from the start and sits right next to your base. Its cheapest egg, the Chicken, hatches in seconds, so grab a few straight away just to get some income going.
Then aim higher in the same biome. Rares such as the Burrowing Owl and the Raccoon earn many times what a Chicken does, and the Epics, the Fox and the Bear, are another big step up. The Forest’s best pet is the Legendary Brr Brr Patapim. Each better egg takes longer to hatch, so start the slow ones before you head out again.
Step 2: Raise your Speed
Speed is the stat that matters most. It decides which biomes you can reach and whether you can outrun a guardian with an egg in your hands. There are three free ways to raise it:
- Train on the treadmill. It is the main source of Speed, and upgrading it makes each session count for more.
- Collect eggs. The community wiki lists a Speed reward for every biome egg, and it grows quickly with each biome. Our data shows that even the cheapest Lake egg comes with more Speed than the best egg in the Forest, so moving on early pays off twice.
- Claim the free gift. According to the community wiki, liking the game, adding it to your favourites and joining the developer’s community group unlocks a one-time Speed gift.
Some Speed boosts cost Robux. You do not need them to progress: training and eggs keep your Speed growing.
Step 3: Unlock the biomes in order
Every biome needs more Speed than the one before. The table shows the Speed each one needs according to the community wiki. Treat these as minimums: heavy eggs slow you down on the way home, so give yourself some extra before you try the guardian’s nest.
| Biome | How to unlock | Speed needed |
|---|---|---|
| Forest | Open from the start. | 0 |
| Lake | Needs enough Speed to reach it and carry eggs back. | 900 |

Good first goals are the Frog and Duckling in the Lake (light, quick eggs that are great for Speed), then the Turtle and Swan. The Lake’s Legendary, the Axolotl, is the best pet most players get from the first two biomes.
Step 4: Choose which eggs to steal
- Rarity first. A pet one rarity higher usually earns several times more than one from the rarity below, which beats almost any lucky roll on a weaker pet.
- Bigger eggs, bigger pets. A larger egg hatches a heavier pet, and heavier pets earn more. Larger eggs are also heavier to carry, so they slow you down.
- Ignore the egg’s colour. The community wiki notes that egg colours change how the egg and pet look, not what the pet earns. Go by the egg’s shape, which tells you the pet inside.
- Come back later. Nests refill every 5 minutes, so if the egg you want is gone, farm something else and return.
Every biome egg also gives Cash when you get it. In our data, that Cash reward equals almost exactly 100 seconds of the pet’s base income for 99 of the 103 biome eggs we list. So the reward is a nice bonus, but the pet itself is what pays you back.
Step 5: Understand mutations and weight
Two random rolls happen when an egg hatches, and both raise the pet’s income:
- A colour mutation. Most pets hatch plain. A few roll Silver, Golden or, very rarely, Rainbow, which multiply the pet’s income. Others, like Scrambled, come from consumables or events instead. See every multiplier on the mutations page.
- A weight. Each pet hatches with its own weight in kg. Heavier pets earn more, but the extra income per kg gets smaller as the weight grows.
Weight is always compared with the pet’s own base weight, and base weights differ a lot from pet to pet. A huge kg number on a Camel or Bear is normal; the same number on a Chicken would be special. Every pet page on this site has a table that shows what a heavier version of that pet earns.
Step 6: Replace your weakest pets
Your pen has limited space, so progress means swapping your weakest pet for a better one again and again. Before you swap, put both pets into the Steal an Egg calculator with their mutation and weight. A heavy Golden pet can beat a plain pet from the next rarity, and the calculator settles it in seconds.
Common mistakes
- Staying in the Forest too long. The Lake’s eggs give more Speed and better pets. Move on as soon as you can reach it.
- Judging a pet by its kg alone. Check the weight against that pet’s base weight, or use the calculator.
- Keeping a weak pet because it is Silver. Silver adds only a little. A plain pet from a higher rarity is usually better.
- Running for the guardian’s nest with no Speed to spare. Heavy eggs slow you down. Farm closer nests until you have extra Speed.
- Wasting mutation consumables. They only work some of the time, so use them on your best eggs, not your cheapest.
- Trusting scripts or Robux giveaway sites. They break Roblox’s rules and can get your account banned or stolen. Our codes page says honestly whether the game has codes at all.
Where to go next
- Calculator: work out what any pet earns with its mutation and weight.
- Pets list and eggs list: every pet and egg by rarity.
- Tier list: the best pets you can still get.
- Codes: any working codes, checked regularly.
